Queiroz Galvão Energia wind farms are among the projects that generated the most energy in the last twelve months
According to the last edition of the Monthly Wind Power Generation Report published by Brazil’s National Electricity System Operator (ONS) in June, Queiroz Galvão Energia (QG Energia) wind farms continue to lead in productivity. Five QG Energia wind farms are among the ten projects that generated the most energy in twelve months, June 2014 to May 2015, and one of them ranked in first position.
The Report shows that all five projects have a capacity factor of over 50%. The Icaraí I wind farm ranked first, with a capacity factor of 57.50%; Taíba Andorinha was ranked third, with 54.10%; Colônia got the sixth position, with 53.60%; Icaraí II, the eighth position, with 52%; and Taíba Águia ranked ninth, also with a capacity factor of 52%.
“This capacity factor is extraordinary, especially when we consider that the national average is 34.4% and, in the Northeast region, the average is around 38.4%. Our wind farms’ productivity is the result of a combination of two relevant factors: implementing projects in sites with exceptional wind power potential and choosing the appropriate wind turbines”, Max Xavier, QG Energia CEO explained.
Today, Queiroz Galvão Energia has nearly 700 MW in operation from its four wind power complexes located in the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte, with an installed capacity of 343 MW; three hydroelectric power plants in Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Santa Catarina, with an installed power capacity of 301.5 MW; and a small hydroelectric power plant in Minas Gerais, generating 19.01 MW. Two other large wind power complexes are being built in the state of Piauí, totaling 386 MW. Both projects will be delivered in two phases: the first phase will be ready by December 2015 and the second one by December 2016.
